King of the Night: The Life of Johnny Carson
Published in Paperback by St Martins Mass Market Paper (June, 1992)
Author: Laurence Leamer
Average review score:

Who Cares?
For all those Carson groupies who enjoy reading uninteresting anecdotes about a boring, arrogant, cliche-spewing, polyester-clad windbag, this will be a fascinating read; for everyone else, it is a total waste of time.

Making Medicine : A Guided Journal for Medicine Cards
Published in Paperback by St. Martin's Press (February, 2002)
Author: David Carson
Average review score:

Save your money and buy a Mead notebook
This is a huge disapointment. Yes, it has pictures of the animals from the Animal Cards, along with parsimonious prose, that is, I guess, suppose to be instructive. But most of the pages are blank, except for the lines upon which one is to write. I counted well over two hundred blank pages. Ok, it does say Journal in the title, but this book is not bound in such a way as it can easily be written in. This is a waste of money for the consumer. Instead, I recommend buying the original Medicine Cards along with a Mead notebook and your experience will be richer as will your pocket book.

Moon Handbooks: Tahoe 3 Ed: Including Reno and Carson Valley
Published in Paperback by Avalon Travel Publishing (30 December, 2000)
Author: Ken Castle
Average review score:

Loaded with Misinformation!
When it comes to travel...misinformation is worse than no information. This book was very poorly researched and/or edited, time after time. Descriptions were way off; phone numbers were inaccurate; addresses were wrong...and useful maps completely omitted. Buy any other guide, you can't possibly do worse!

Moral Relativism: A Reader
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (August, 2000)
Authors: Paul K. Moser and Thomas L. Carson
Average review score:

I can't believe how bad this was
A professor of philosophy at the local university recommended this book as a good introduction to the topic of ethical (moral) relativism, suitable for the layperson. It definitely isn't. I read the lengthy introduction, which lays out the landscape of the topic and defines a bunch of terms. Then I read the first essay, which does exactly the same thing. I started on the second essay and realized that these essays just are not suited for a layperson novice in the field.

So I skipped to the final section, which is purported to be "a case study on female circumcision/genital mutilation that vividly brings into focus the practical aspects and implications of moral relativism." It sure looked more "user friendly". But the case study isn't really much of a case study as it is a poorly thought out argument against using moral relativism to defend these practices. It's been 15 years since I took my last philosophy course in college, but even I noticed the glaring logic errors used one after another in this argument.

I don't think I've ever been this dissatisfied with a book, so I felt I had to write a review to warn you to stay away!
